My name is Zach Heath and I created this site in order to blog about my experiences, share information, and collaborate with others about cancer. I hope you'll join me on my journey!
I'm 29 years old and eager to start the last semester of my Masters in Business Administration degree through the Crosby M.B.A. program at the University of Missouri. Go Tigers! I was recently diagnosed with Colon Cancer. My life has basically turned upside down in the past few months. Unfortunately, cancer runs fairly rampant in my family. Luckily, we're all pretty tough characters.
Shit happens! What matters is how you deal with it.
Ironically, since May, I have been working with a few fellow MBA students and an oncologist to start a company (Hunter Biomedical Group) centered around changing the way we treat and even diagnose cancer. I was a very active cancer supporter and researcher well before my diagnosis. However, having cancer myself has honed in my areas of focus you could say. One of the most exciting things that will be discussed on this blog is the CHAINlife Diet. This is a diet that was created by our company to specifically fight against and prevent cancer. We meticulously researched foods and selected those that have the most benefit in both preventing and fighting cancer. After all, you really are what you eat!
Anyways, I'll elaborate a little bit on who I am and what makes me tick. Growing up, I'm pretty sure all I did was play sports. At least, that's pretty much what every memory I have says. I participated in baseball, basketball, football, soccer, roller hockey, swimming, and water polo before college. I won two state championships in High School, one in baseball and one in swimming. Baseball was my best sport though. I earned First Team All-State Honors in H.S. and went on to play Division I baseball. I still love the sport to this day and I am a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan...no apologies there.
In college, I majored in Cellular and Molecular Biology and had a particular interest in Genetics. It is just flat out cool. I'm even a published Genetics author! Due to my interest in science, I became very interested in making my body as healthy as I could. I tinkered with both the Paleo and Zone Diets and really enjoyed them both (CHAINlife has many similarities to paleo...with some modern science behind it!) My interests in sports and health led me to be an avid CROSSFITTER. Don't worry, I won't talk about it incessantly, even though I think everyone should try it. Anyways, this all brings me to where I'm at today - completely befuddled that I managed to have cancer before the age of 30 and annoyed that the only workout I'll have in the next eight months is beating up on cancer.
Since college, I have had several jobs in varying career fields that I didn't necessarily have a strong interest in pursuing...got to pay the bills though right? Therefore, I decided to pursue a M.B.A. Then, I met Dr. Hunter and I became involved with Hunter Biomedical Group. I love what our company is all about and what we are trying to do. I will reference many of our projects on this site. I have a voracious appetite for knowledge when it comes to cancer and sharing that knowledge is the main reason I wanted to create this site. I hope to share all the valuable information that I have and will come across, and help anyone I can.
Science is awesome, Cancer is beatable, and life is great!
